Tony Stewart: Owner & Top Fuel Driver

As tenacious as Stewart is in the cockpit of a racecar, he’s proven equally adept at providing cars and equipment for racing’s elite. The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion can also list 31 owners’ titles to his resume, from NASCAR to USAC to the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.  In 2023 Stewart earned his 31st owner title when Matt Hagan and the TSR Funny Car team earned the championship on November 11th.  His team, Tony Stewart Racing, fields a powerhouse lineup in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series with Tony in Top Fuel and Matt Hagan in Funny Car. Tony is moving into the Top Fuel seat for his wife Leah Pruett, who is stepping aside from racing with plans to start a family with Stewart. Stewart and Hagan wrangle their 11,000-horsepower machines to speeds in excess of 330 mph down a 1,000-footlong straightaway. It’s a visceral explosion of sound and fury that is unlike any other motorsports property in the world. Having conquered oval tracks, both paved and covered in dirt, Stewart has set his sights on straight-line racing.

Leah Pruett:
Top Fuel Driver

Pruett is a 12-time Top Fuel event winner whose career-best elapsed time run is 3.631 seconds (Nov. 10, 2018 in Q4 at Pomona, California) and her best speed is 334.15 mph (Feb. 24, 2018 in Q3 at Phoenix).  Pruett finished the 2023 season at Pomona with a runner-up finish that put her third in the overall standings, the highest finish of her career.  The 2023 season marked her 27th consecutive year of NHRA competition, which began in the series’ Jr. Drag Racing League as an 8-year-old. She won the 2010 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series championship in the Nostalgia Funny Car class and has spent the last eight years advancing her way through Top Fuel. However, the native of Redlands, California, has not confined herself to NHRA’s top class. Pruett has pulled double duty for a number of years by also competing fulltime in the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown, winning the 2018 title in her Dodge Challenger Drag Pak. She is stepping aside from NHRA competition in 2024 to focus on starting a family with husband Tony Stewart.

Matt Hagan:
Funny Car Driver

Hagan is a four-time Funny Car champion (2011, 2014, 2020 and 2023) who won his most recent title for Tony Stewart Racing on November 11th, 2023 by besting Robert Hight by 12 points.  The cattle rancher from Christiansburg, Virginia, has a career-best elapsed time run of 3.799 seconds (Sept. 1, 2017 in Q1 at Indianapolis) and a best speed of 338.85 mph (May 20, 2017 in Q2 at Topeka, Kansas). Hagan first competed in Funny Car back in 2008, running in four events and qualifying No. 1 at the prestigious U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Shining in his limited schedule, Hagan earned a full time drive in 2009. With his rookie season behind him, Hagan broke out in 2010, winning the NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston to collect the first of his 49 career Funny Car victories. Hagan’s Funny Car prowess was a continuation of his straight-line racing form. He was the 2006 rookie of the year in the NHRA AMS Pro Mod Challenge, and as a driver/owner he continued that success in the IHRA’s Funny Car division, winning a class-best three races in 2008.
